Why Advertise with Us?

Statistics show that the average age a couple chooses to start a family is increasing. Many women prefer to wait until they have a career behind them and are financially secure before having a baby. This creates two distinct needs. Firstly, new Mums and Dads are more likely to have moved away from their friends and family to follow their career, education needs or aspirations for a better quality of life. This makes them feel uniquely vulnerable when they have a young family and are away from traditional sources of support. Generation One is proud to offer valuable information and facilitate peer support for families in this situation and has developed a reputation as a trusted family friend.

Secondly, new Mums and Dads are much more likely to be financially secure. They are guaranteed to start spending their hard earned cash once their children come along. A recent survey found that parents will spend on average £3,000 per year, per child on raising their children – not including costs associated with school. The Office of National Statistics show that the average couple spends £1,000 before the birth of their baby, and at least another £3,500 in first year of their child’s life. Families are likely to buy a bigger house, new car, improve their home, buy domestic support services such as cleaners and gardeners, and buy holidays and short breaks. We can efficiently put you in touch with this group of very active consumers.

KEY FACTS:
Generation One Magazine

Generation One magazine

Generation One is a free magazine published bi-monthly in full colour. It is read by approximately 40,000 East Yorkshire parents, and is primarily aimed at the affluent ABC1 demographic. These parents have the most time and disposable income to invest in raising their little ones. Although the magazine is free, some families prefer to subscribe so that they can gave the magazine delivered to their door. We charge a very reasonable £10.00 per year.

Generation One is distributed through almost 500 community outlets – including private nurseries, childcare settings, toddler groups and playgroups, doctor’s surgeries, midwife and antenatal clinics, hospitals, schools, family restaurants, play centres and ball pools. This means that we take your advertising message right to the places that families visit. We do not drop Generation One through letterboxes – our readers ‘opt in’ – meaning that few copies end up in the bin. We have found this a very effective way to distribute, with the majority of outlets running out before the end of the magazine’s 2 month lifecycle.

We are especially proud of the editorial content of Generation One. It is an article-dense publication and we always receive high praise for the quality of editorial and the high proportion of articles to advertising. We are under no illusion that this is what attracts our readers and keeps them loyal, and so we do not compromise on this, even if this means we sell out of advertising spaces before the deadline, which we often do.

Generation One is an A5 magazine, which is a perfect size for handbags, changing bags or that shelf next to the phone. It’s small enough to be taken out and about and referred to at the moment a purchasing decision is made.

KEY FACTS:
Generation One Online

Generation One Magazine

A recent survey found that 80% of Mums in the AB demographic will use the internet to shop for product information, and of this group, 75% shop online at least once per month. The immediacy of the internet is helpful for busy modern Mums, as is the ability to shop at times when your child is asleep. As an advertiser, Generation One online helps you to attract this group of net-savvy Mums. Similarly, the sense of community on our forums is paramount and a good idea or offer can spread like wildfire: Generation One online gives you a unique opportunity to engage with your customers though our web community and see how well your products are received. A good product of service will be well recommended by our users. There is no substitute for word of mouth.

Our research tells us that East Yorkshire Mums find it hard to access good quality information about the opportunities there are for children locally. We provide this at the touch of a button: clubs and classes, days out, family friendly restaurants, clean local parks – we get to the very heart of the matter. The thing we are most proud of is our community forums. By advertising with Generation One you are helping to support a community that brings support, friendship, encouragement and humour to the days of thousands of parents. You are also very welcome to post yourself, establish yourself as an expert and market your business by offering advice and support. Our business networking forum may well be of interest too.
